“Get on the Bus” (GOTB) is an organization whose mission is to bring children and their caregivers from throughout the State of California to visit their mothers or fathers who are in prison. This program was inaugurated in 1999 after a number of women religious visited prisons and learned that many of the women had not seen their children for the entire duration of their incarceration. A group of sisters and lay women sponsored the first Get on the Bus trip and the organi zation has grown since then, for many years under the leadership of Sisters of St. Joseph, Suzanne Steffen and Suzanne Jabro.
GOTB provides transportation to and from prisons, travel bags for the children, comfort bags for the caregivers and meals while in transit. This is all at no cost to a child’s family. Our Lady of Perpetual Help is among several parishes within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles that have been asked by GOTB for support. To do this, an OLPH parishioner is needed who will act as the primary point of contact with GOTB in order to coordinate preparation of travel bags, comfort bags, meals and if desired, accompanying families traveling to and from the prisons. If you would like to be considered for this, please call, text or email: OLPH Business Manger Deacon Terry Irwin (213 646-2928) [email protected]

We have the wonderful opportunity to experience the love and mercy of Christ in the Sacrament of Penance. It was on the very day of his Resurrection that Jesus entrusted to his apostles the mission of forgiving sins and we continue to benefit from this Sacrament of Mercy.
In addition to our regularly scheduled times for confession, we have the blessing of having three Penance Services with many extra confessors available that are scheduled here in the Santa Clarita Valley. On Monday, April 7 there is a penance service at St. Clare’s Parish. On Tuesday, April 8, there is a penance ser vice at St. Kateri’s parish. On Wednesday, April 9 there is a penance service here at OLPH. All three services begin at 7:00 p.m. We will have fifteen confessors available that evening, many of whom are bilingual. Perhaps sharing in one of these services is just the special grace the Lord has for you in this Lent. Please plan ahead and mark your calendars to take advantage of these services. The Health Ministry is offering Blood Pressure checks and counseling on:
Sunday, March 23 after the 8:45, 10:30 and 12:15 Masses. It only takes 5 minutes to find out if you have high blood pressure, the "silent killer". The Stations were first celebrated by pilgrims to Jerusalem and later this devotion spread throughout the Christian world. During Lent we celebrate the Stations of the Cross at the following times:
Fridays, March 21, 28, April 4 and 11 --6:00 p.m. (English – Friday Adoration will conclude with simple Benediction at 5:45 p.m.) --6:45 p.m. (Spanish) Mondays, March 17, 24, 31, April 7 and 14 --2:00 p.m. (sponsored by our parish school) For those unable to participate at one of these times, feel free to drop by the church and make the Stations on your own either indoors or outdoors. This is a wonderful devotion that you can also celebrate at home simply by focusing on a crucifix and either reflecting on the fourteen traditional stations or by reading passages from the passion stories of the Gospels and taking a few moments to reflect on the Lord’s sacrifice made for us. Christian tradition has many prayers of contrition. The Act of Contrition is a prayer of humble acknowledgement of our human frailty used when we celebrate the Sacrament of Penance. It is also a wonderful prayer to use daily, especially in the late evening. Catholics are encouraged to memorize this prayer and use it often as well as when going to confession.
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy. Amen. Over 20 parishes across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be open for 24 hours for prayer and the Sacrament of Reconciliation from the morning of March 28 through the morning of March 29, 2025. The walk to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels will begin at 8:00 a.m. at All Souls Church in Alhambra, with stops at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Rose Hill and Our Lady Help of Christians. Upon arrival at the cathedral, Archbishop Gomez will celebrate Mass; bus transportation from the cathedral to All Souls will be available at 1 p.m. The relics of several saints, including the soon to be canonized Bl. Carlo Acutis, will accompany on us on our journey. See button below for more information and to register. Hello everyone, here is the link to have your children sign up for "Youth Day 2025"
